Mystery Knitter

In this messed up world of ours, a quirky news story helps bring out the lighter side of life :o)

"A mystery knitter is spinning quite a yarn over one New Jersey shore town by putting jumpers over trees and lamp poles.  The unknown West Cape May resident, dubbed The Midnight Knitter, is covering tree branches and lamp posts with little sweaters under cover of darkness.

Residents say they're enthralled by the rainbow of colours that have popped up.  'We don't know who it is,' Mayor Pam Kaithern told The Press of Atlantic City.  'Technically they shouldn't be doing it. The police are asking about it, but it's fun and it's a mystery.'

No one has admitted to being the phantom knitter but a Facebook page called Salty Knits has over 300 fans.  Resident Susan Longacre takes a walk each morning in Wilbraham Park, where several tree branches and light poles have been given jumpers.

'I think it's wonderful,' she said.  But others are indifferent.  'It doesn't bother me. It's better than somebody spray painting all over the place,' said local resident Jamie Smith."
