Daily Devotionals for Little Girls

I found a great resource for having a daily Bible devotion with my daughter.  It's a book called God & Me.  Even though my daughter is almost 6, I purchased the book for ages 2 to 5 since the the next level up requires that the child read fluently (we're still reading level 1 readers).  What I like the most about this book is that each day there is a different topic, such as, Choices, Patience, Self-Control, Doubt, Love, Perseverance, etc.  Each day starts out with a Bible verse and then tells a short story relating to the topic.  At the end, there are thought-provoking questions to ask your child, followed by an activity related to the story.  There is also a short prayer to pray with your child - it's short enough that the child can repeat it herself, if she wants to.

Ella really loves this devotional book and it is one of her favorite parts of our school day.  The stories keep her interested and she likes answering the question at the end and praying with Mommy.  The things she learns are practical and it's great when we can apply them during our daily routine.  For example, we were able to recall the lesson on Perseverance when she was struggling with her math page.  And I also reminded her of the Bible verse that says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Phillipians 4:13).

I still think it's important to share Bible stories instead of just devotional stories, however, I think this book is great because it helps your child see how she can apply the Bible to her life.  Plus, it helps your child understand that God knows their shortcomings yet He wants to help them work through them - it lets the child know that God is interested in her life.  Don't we all need to be reminded of that??!

You can order a copy of God & Me from Amazon.  Don't have a girl?  There's also a devotional book for young boys, too!  It's called Gotta Have God and it is made by the same publisher.  You can find it here.
