Court and I are doing our best to eat 'au naturel'.  This means lean meats, fish/seafood, lots of veggies, some fruits, some whole grains, no dairy and little to no processed foods.  This also means doing more food preparation and cooking, which I don't mind.  In fact, I prefer it!  Eating out too often upsets my stomach and makes me feel boated.

Young elementary students respond really well to manipulatives and games for math - at least, that's what the experts say.  I think it's true of my daughter as well.  She can certainly do worksheet after worksheet, but she seems to catch on to new concepts more quickly when she can 'see' the how and why behind the numbers on the page.

As the first semester of 1st Grade comes to a close, I'm finally able to think about things that I want to do - like updating my blog!  I prayed a dangerous prayer at the beginning of this school year.  I prayed that the Lord would remove the things in my life that distracted me from what His will is for my life. Baskets ready, now time to walk past the blackberry patches to the strawberry field.

Look, she rolled her socks :o)  As a child of the 80's, this makes me quite proud!

Today is a big day for us.  My husband is starting his new job today and Ella and I just wrapped up our first day of First Grade.  With all this Back to (home)School and new jobs and school activities starting up (field trips, co-op classes, etc.), my mind is turning to Fall.

The Graphic Geek in me loves this!  It's a chandelier made out of K3 ink cartridges from a large Epson printer.  Did I mention that Epson happens to be my favorite brand of printer??  And the best part is that the colors are in order: CMYK (that's Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black - the K stands for blacK).

 After learning about the first Thanksgiving, Ella decided to make some Native American placemats for our Thanksgiving feast on Thursday.  Court and I helped her trace a Native American design and some Pilgrims and Indians onto paper.  She then colored and drew her own designs to decorate them.  When she was done, I laminated them so that the food wouldn't ruin them.
